(Pictured right is Kitty Devlin)<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/figure>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>In 2021 I wrote for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/m0010krr\">EastEnders<\/a>\u00a0(16 June and 12 October 2021 episodes), appeared as Gloria in Jean St Clair and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bslzone.co.uk\/watch\/veneer\">Mutt &amp; Jeff Pictures<\/a>\u00a0short film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bslzone.co.uk\/watch\/veneer\">VENEER <\/a>. As part of my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augmentedproductions.co\">Augmented Productions<\/a> associateship with Told by an Idiot, I collaborated with Dudley Rees to make a Covid 19 response film <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lJUHadftbgQ\">BEST IN LOCKDOWN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2020 I toured my new show, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toldbyanidiot.org\/associate-company-augmented\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Augmented,\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0to Royal Exchange Theatre, Birmingham Rep, Salisbury Playhouse before the tour was cut short by the pandemic. The film of Augmented streamed at Gateshead International Festival (GIFT), Dumfries &amp; Galloway Festival and Unlimited Festival at Southbank Centre&#8217;s Unlimited Festival, gaining further critical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augmentedproductions.co\/events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acclaim<\/a>. Augmented was the inaugural show of my company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augmentedproductions.co\">Augmented Productions<\/a>. Augmented is directed by Rachel Bagshaw and produced by Jenni Grainger, lead producer at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toldbyanidiot.org\/associate-company-augmented\">Told by an Idiot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also in 2020 I was a <a href=\"https:\/\/weareunlimited.org.uk\/working-with-wellcome\/\">Wellcome Collection research artist<\/a>, exploring the theme of deaf and disabled workers in the archive. As well as facilitating a Wellcome Reading Room workshop called Cyborg Whispers, I&#8217;ve spoken at three Wellcome events, including <a href=\"https:\/\/wellcomecollection.org\/events\/XbFZ9xAAAK2wyuzl\">The Politics of Deafness<\/a>\u00a0and delivering two <a href=\"https:\/\/wellcomecollection.org\/events\/YeViLhAAAJMQM7IY\">research lectures<\/a> at the Wellcome Collection.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018 and 2019, at the Barbican, I appeared in a series of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.toldbyanidiot.org\/productions\/let-me-play-lion-too\/\">Told By An Idiot<\/a>\u00a0improvised performances, <em>Let Me Play the Lion Too<\/em>, directed by Paul Hunter.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve co-written an episode of Casualty with Charlie Swinbourne, (BBC1). The series won a BAFTA and the RTS best continuing drama award.<\/p>\n<p>BBC radio writer credits include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b00pxqz5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carbon Cleansing<\/a>\u00a0(David Hunter) Absolutely Delish, Grazing episode, (Helen Perry).<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, I created <a href=\"http:\/\/beedetective.bz\/?page_id=10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bee Detective<\/a>, a children&#8217;s show for London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, which was performed in English, British Sign Language and featured animation by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesmerry.co.uk\/home\/?p=341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Merry<\/a>. Bee Detective was directed by long time collaborator, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemmafairlie.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gemma Fairlie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other theatre includes a work in progress cross arts performance piece called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bubblegumclub.co.za\/fake-interpreter-cross-art-performance-piece\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Fake Interpreter,<\/a>\u00a0with dancer, Andile Vellem, of Unmute,\u00a0at Artscape in South Africa. My first stage play,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sophiewoolley.com\/?page_id=17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">When to Run<\/a> (Soho Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe, UK tour) and <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/8236728\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fight Face<\/a> (Lyric Hammersmith).<\/p>\n<p>Acting credits include DCI Banks (ITV), <a title=\"Cast Offs website and watch again\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Cast-Offs-DVD-Tim-Gebbels\/dp\/B00206U624\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAST OFFS<\/a> (Channel 4), Ellen in Midnight Cry of the Deathbird, BBC Radio 3 by Amanda Dalton, \u00a0<a title=\"BBC play website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b015bxqb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DRAGONFLY<\/a>, written by Katie Hims\/BBC Radio 4. Online you can see me play a hearing TV presenter in my own spoof web series,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1EaYExrVuW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deaf Faker .<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was an attached writer at Soho Theatre, won places on the Channel 4 screenwriting course and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/mediacentre\/latestnews\/2018\/writers-access-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Writers Room Access Group.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2018 I was lead artist at the Ovalhouse Adult Company solo show course. In 2018-219 I was a Clore Fellow on the Clore Leadership Programme. I am a trustee at New Wolsey Theatre and at Told by an idiot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I also write journalism. You can read my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2014\/aug\/08\/i-can-hear-after-20-years-being-deaf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guardian Weekend article here.\u00a0 <\/a>And my article for Metro <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2020\/03\/07\/like-regain-hearing-decade-deaf-12287715\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was born in Glasgow in Scotland and grew up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofwomenlondon.org\/?fbclid=IwAR1vN2nWAUPPqRE-kEUnn9y-eF4JRNOj5_LYwizKSqFPW-izhVK8hTuLX-8\">Harlesden<\/a>, North West London. Like my mother and ancestors, I went progressively deaf from the age of 18, becoming totally deaf in both ears. I used BSL interpreters and palantypists at work. After I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2014\/aug\/08\/i-can-hear-after-20-years-being-deaf\">had a cochlear implant in 2013<\/a>, I began to call myself a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augmentedproductions.co\/events\">Deaf Cyborg<\/a>. My first language is English.
