Radio 4 play Carbon Cleansing press reviews
Nice reviews for my Radio 4 play CARBON CLEANSING....
The Times (Radio choice)
"Sophie Woolley's Carbon Cleansing achieves the considerable feat of making it seem almost possible that three people who have nothing in common cannot only work for a common goal, but find love along the way (well two of them do anyway). The hugely rich and supremely selfish Tabitha (Doon Mackichan) knocks passionate green activist Will (Joseph Kloska) off his bike, takes him home to bandage his wounds and, attracted by his rugged good looks, decides to manufacture an interest in saving the planet as a way to his heart. Meanwhile cleaner Sam (Gemma Saunders) also has the hots for the not so jolly green giant. As the unlikely menage winds its way towards a conclusion there are many fine lines for the actors to speak, as well as some useful facts about climate change to drop into dinner-party conversation"
"In Sophie Woolley's eco romcom, Doon Mackichan plays Tabitha, rich socialite, former banker, newly pregnant by a man she doesn't live with. Tabitha knocks another man off his bike one day. He, Will (played by Joseph Kloska), is a green activist and would be writer. She takes him home for first aid and tea. The tea is made by Sam, the cleaning lady (Gemma Saunders). Tabitha falls under Will's spell, growing bolder and greener by the day. Will, however, has taken to going round for more tea from Sam and a dip in Tabitha's hot tub. Mischievous cupid"
The Observer (pick of the day)
"Carbon Cleansing. Cyclist and eco-warrior Will finds an eager new convert, ex-banker Tabitha, in Sophie Woolley's entertaining play about the farcical lengths to which some of us will go to further the green cause. In Tabitha's case, her newfound enthusiasm has a lot to do with her romantic interest in Will (and the fact that she could do with a new father for her unborn child), but what starts as tokenism turns into an angst-ridden obsession. Featuring a lovely performance by Doon Mackichan as Tabitha."
Radio Times (pick of the day)
"After years of doing this job I like to think that I am pretty good at recognising voices, but I would never have guessed that the star of this drama was Doon Mackichan. It's not just the masking of her accent or the fact that she plays a character much younger than her years, but the convincing way in which she portrays the ridiculously irritating air-head, Tabitha. What is more familiar for Ms Mackichan is the wit involved in this production; it's not laugh out loud funny, but the smart observations on the selfishness of characters of her social standing versus the morally smug status of eco-activists make this a very different listen. The most interesting point made, albeit rather hidden away, is that it's far easier to be green if money is not a worry." Jane Anderson
