Just done a playlab at Graeae theatre co, workshopping a thing for me and Tim Gebbels to act in (working title above). Carissa Lynch the lit manager set it up and Amit Sharma, the associate director, told us what to do. I’ve got to read through the transcription of our conversations and digest what came out of the last two days but it was very interesting, different, and more! I’m very excited about the story. Here are some blurry photos of one of the improvisations. Check out Graeae blog about it here.

Theatre R&D
I had a good time performing a new piece at Richmix. It got pretty violent. Feedback on the audience questionnaires was VERY good.
Next up is more new theatre development – I’m doing a Writer Playlab with Graeae Theatre Co in December. I’ll be working with actor Tim Gebbels and associate director Amit Sharma. It will be brilliant.
Rich Mix
I’m doing a scratch performance of a new monologue (along with my AMAZING photography) at an event organised by Penned in the Margins at Rich Mix Theatre, Shoreditch.
Ace line up: Greg McClaren of STK International, Luke Wright and Zara Hayes, The Hurly Burly and Circus Kinetica. We’re in the local rag too.
London 2012
Great news, my outdoor show for children, Bee Detective, will be part of the London 2012 Festival.
Directed by Gemma Fairlie (co founder of our Tin Bath Theatre Company), Bee Detective will be accessible to deaf audiences though captions and sign language. I’m writing and performing.

Wicked TV
As well as being on Radio 4 on 3rd October (see my previous post) I’m also on telly the same day talking about my Deaf Faker spoofs on a TV show called Wicked. (My bit is at about 11 minutes in).
Monday 3 October at 8.45am on Film4, (Freeview 15, Sky 315, Virgin 428)
Dragonfly – Radio 4 play
Still pinching myself about being allowed to act in a Katie Hims play last week. I’ve been a massive fan of Katie’s virtuoso radio scripts since meeting her on a course last year.
The play is called Dragonfly and airs on 3rd October 2.15pm on Radio 4 (directed by the lovely Sue Roberts). The recording was hugely enjoyable and engrossing and the script was dead funny and moving. It was the first time I’ve worked with David Bower, a very talented actor. We recorded at old BBC drama studios in Manchester, just before the transfer to the new Salford site.
New play commission
Tin Bath Theatre (the company I setup with director Gemma Fairlie) has been awarded an Unlimited commission to create a children’s show called Bee Detective. Here’s the press release. I’ll be writing and performing.
Script reading at Channel 4
I’ve just completed a screenwriting course at Channel 4, during which I wrote a pilot episode and series outline. It was a lot of fun to write, and I was often laughing as I typed. I’m indebted to all the good people who helped me with research.
Last weekend actors read the script at Channel 4 HQ. I sat on the edge of my seat, watching and waiting for all the lines to land in the way I’d anticipated. The actors read it beautifully and I was relieved to see everyone laughing (it’s a comedy drama). Feedback is very promising.
The script is now going out to production companies.
Cast Offs airs in Australia
